That's great news! Our biggest need is for dorm leaders (aged 18+) and junior leaders (aged 16 or 17) who spend most of their time in twos or threes looking after a dorm of five to eight children. You can read more about the role here. We also need a few cooks (preferably over 21) - more info here.
As well as being rewarding, exciting and fun, being a leader at Lighthouse is hard work. As a leader, your primary responsibility is to serve the children in your care, and this can be a real challenge, especially when you're tired or running out of patience near the end of the holiday. It is really important that you are prepared to put the children first at all times, even when you don't feel like it. This is a challenge for all of us, and we support each other in this, both informally and through a network of team pastors who will look out for you and be there for you if you are finding things difficult.
If you're finding your Christian life hard at the moment, or if you're struggling in other ways, it may be that this is not the right time to become a leader. There are loads of other opportunities for you to attend events that are focused on feeding you (for example, New Wine, Soul Survivor and the Keswick Convention), and if this is what you're looking for, we'd encourage you to get stuck in at one of those, either as well as, or instead of, leading at Lighthouse.
Finally, Lighthouse is primarily a Christian teaching holiday, and whilst we spend many hours playing games and having loads of fun, this teaching is the core of what we do. We are looking for team members with a living faith in Jesus Christ, evidenced in daily life and through fellowship with other Christians in a church context. All new leaders will be asked to complete a questionnaire
and provide two references, one of which must be from a church leader, which will help us understand you, how you might fit into our team and how your faith is working itself out in your life. All new team members also have to complete an enhanced disclosure from the Criminal Records Bureau; our policy prevents us from reusing any disclosures you may have from another organisation.
Phew! All that might seem a bit daunting, but at the end of the day, if you know and love Jesus and are keen to serve children by helping them learn more about him, leading at Lighthouse is a fantastic opportunity to do just that whilst having a load of fun on the way! Do contact us with any questions you might have, and we hope to see you in the summer.
